There is a buzz in the home building industry this week and it’s great news that’s got everyone talking. According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), “Builder confidence in the market for newly-built single-family homes hit a significant milestone in June, surging eight points to a reading of 52*…” This milestone indicates that the majority of builders view sales conditions as being good rather than poor, and it’s the first time this kind of surge has happened since August/September of 2002.
Although you’re probably not a builder, this milestone means that the US economy is strengthening and that consumers are again able to build homes. Home building is a significant part of the economy in the US, but we also see more good news in other important sectors of our economy.
In fact, the unemployment rate reported in April 2013 declined to 7.5 percent, the lowest since January of 2009**. And the US Consumer Confidence Index is at a 5-year high of 76.2***.
So all this good news plus continued low interest rates means it’s a good time to build your new home!
